Identifying L series gearboxes, 3.9 or 3.7?
I have a question about L series manual gearboxes. I was wondering if there's any way of telling what ratio they are from the outside? (assuming they haven't been tinkered with) Any markings? Particular models the 3.7s and 3.9s came on?
One way I've just thought of would be that the rear diff sometimes has a sticker on it saying what it is.
Also, in case you didn't see my wanted thread I'm looking for a 3.9 box to replace mine that these bits came out of yesterday...
Cheers,
tommo.

pretty sure if you mark the crown wheel and then turn it and count the teeth you will work out what ratio it is, or it may be marked on the crown wheel.

Take the oil drain plug out, mark a tooth with liquid paper and count teeth. From memory it's either 37 or 39

No, input shaft is the same regardless...Callum89 wrote:Is it possible to tell if a gearbox is a 3.7 or a 3.9 from the number of plines on the gearbox input shaft? My gearbox has 24 splines and the diameter is 24mm.
