Will an EJ25 Crank fit into an EJ22 engine?

Post by TiAgMY84 » Mon Jan 30, 2006 9:31 pm

I've got a damaged crankshaft keyway on my SOHC EJ22 due to the crankshaft pulley bolt not being tightend correctly, so the crankshaft sproket and pulley rotate on the shaft about 10-15 degs.

Can any one suggest what option's might be available or if an EJ25 crank will fit in it's place.

Has anyone had this happen to them and if so what was their fix?

You should be able to get somebody to machine a new keyway on the opposite side, though I am unsure if that portion of the crank is heat treated.

I do know know the newer engines well enough to tell you if there is anything along the lines of a crank angle sensor driven directally off the pulley ?

Is the cam belt pulley on a separate keyway ? Cause that would be the tricky bit, getting things to go back in the same angular orientation without having a nice square keyway to work from.

The more I think about it the less I think it would be a good idea to try to salvage the crank. I believe there are threads elsewhere here talking about fitting the EJ25 crank .

Yeah the EJ25 crank (apparently) does fit BUT you MUST use the EJ25 conrods too or very nasty things will happen.

A bonus from this is you would then have an EJ23

Wouldn't it be easier to just use another EJ22 crank?
