Reluctant High Range....WTF ???

Went for a hoon up Lancelin right.... Shoved it into Low...Hoonin' round the general dunes. Did a bit of a beach run... Totally ate it for breakfast... passin bogged big trucks on the chew'd up beach headin north to 'Leftys'....

So had my fun and pulled out onto the black stuff and it wouldnt hold in High Range... bloody freaky. It would look like and kinda feel like it was in but just a tad short (a little flex in the lever as in not solid on the little white stopper it has under then console cover that the lever pushes against)... then as soon as I release a bit of clutch it would pop out and growl in a nasty fashion if I tried to hold it in. Tried all sorts of stuff like rollin a bit etc... checked underneath. Nothin obvious.

So I drove back to Innaloo in Low at 90k/h @ 3500rpm. I pulled up out the front to reverse in and gave it a go. Dropped straight in.... WTF....???

Made a few shifts and went High to Low and so on and sweet as a nut....

Any idea whats goin on here.....????

Thats pretty much what I though. I couldnt really see how it could get in anywhere. The Hi/Lo selector seems to travel inside the main gear select shaft and is all wrapped up in a boot. Very odd. But that was our initial diagnosis and the drive home has vibrated out what shouldnt have been in....

All fine now....

There's some f@rkin jerks up there. Motos just roostin everythin in sight... even out on main thoroughfare type roads from dude to dune so to speak.... quads are even stupider.... saw a few come off... was a larf indeed.

check the low range rod that runs from the front ot the back of the gearbox on the outside it has an adjustment that may be loose

sounds like when you try to put it back in high its not pulling the selector far enough back so you could try winding the shaft back a couple of turns see if it will work then

i had this problem with the old gearbox in my brumby

edit: unless your talking bout the forrester then the cable could be streched of the clip on the gearbox end could be loose

Yep... Forester. Its workin fine now so I'll have to keep an eye on it. I could'nt see any adjusters anywhere.
