engine out

Post by creeture3 » Sun Oct 05, 2008 9:33 pm

Hi there folks. I am about to pull out the engine on a '98 Liberty Rx in order to do the head gasket/s.

I do have a manual, but I need to confirm one or two things:

according to the manual, when doing up the head bolts, one does them to a tension ( I forget exactly what it is) and then RELEASES the tension in two 180 degree turns, and then re-tensions the bolts.

Is this correct??

Is there a better way??

Also, is there anything one needs to be aware of that may not be in the manual?

Cheers

That is right. Seems strange to do it that way I know. The manuals are pretty good. You shouldn't have any troubles.

Thanks Outback bloke, it does seem really weird, as I have never had to do the head bolts that way before. I wasn't sure if it was a misprint!!

Do you know why that is done, by any chance?

I'd be interested to know this too - I've never heared of this being done before... Is it only on the EJ's?
