i have heared that to turn an open wheel diff into a lsd you can shim it unsure if it will work on a subaru plan on trying or spool it

any way my main question is can i shim the frount, to make it a tight
i have a spare box a and willing to go ginny pig

Sorry but it wouldn't work. The shimming will only adjust the pre load and backlash of the diff. If you want LSD you will either have to buy a gearbox with lsd or split the box and install one.

how hard is it to instal lsd componets do they exist
i need to pull one apart to seal it

Find a rear lsd from an L series 4wd turbo sedan.

You can't just put an LSD into the gearbox, maybe you can but it would be a rediculously expensive custom job. If you want a gearbox with LSD in it your better off converting to an EJ gearbox. This LSD would refer to the centre diff. Some very expensive WRX gearboxes have LSD on the front diff too.

You are most likely referring to the rear diff of the car. In which case yeah, you just need to obtain one from either a turbo Vortex or RX turbo - this will get you a clutch-pack LSD. These diffs will just bolt in.

You can also get the Viscus LSD type from early Liberty RS Turbo's which will also bolt in.

Just need to make sure the ratio matches your EA gearbox (either 3.9 or 3.7). If it doesn't it's very easy to use the gears and casing from your existing open centre diff to change the ratio to suit.

You can also use later model rear diffs from WRX's etc but you need to mess around abit with inner CV's etc.

so i will be biting off more than i can chew with the frount
is any one using an air locker in the rear

no such thing for a subaru diff

look like i will have to just settl for a lsd in the rear
