Hi all,

How do I go about rebuilding an 84 EA81 to make it work on unleaded without suppliments? I've been told that all it needs is slightly different valves is that right?

The motor is pretty screwed at the moment it at least needs both heads done but will probably do the block as well.

What else would I need to know to rebuild an EA81?

Alternatively there is one from an 89 brumby on ebay - would that go right in?

Thanks.

You didn't really need supplements before according to an engineering article i read. It basically said that to have alloy head the makers needed the hardened valve seats anyway which is what is fitted to cast iron heads in a conversion to suit ULP. Hardened valves seats also needed for LPG for best wear. I giot 180,000km on recoed standard EA81 heads, they still sealed but were showing signs that a third life was not a good idea. Just get heads serviced

Japan has been running unleaded since the 70's, no need to do anything to any pre 85 sube to run on ulp. I run E10 only in both my 87 brumby and my 03 H6 Outback and both cars run fine (and better than on normal ulp)
