ive touched on this before with people saying to replace the split pin with a bolt... well when i checked my shifter this little "modification" has already been done to the car before i brought it, but, the shifter is sloppy as now and getting really difficult to get into reverse (the other gears i find really easy tho) so is there another solution?

cheers

Have you checked the rubber bushes - they could be worn/broken down?

You get the parts at a Subaru dealer.
Ask them to see picture 330-2 in the Brumby book and these are the parts you'll need;
# 8 - 733229010 x 2 - Bush
# 9 - 633124170 x 2 - Bush
# 4- 733146090 x 1 - Bush
# 42 - 733127020 x 1 - Spacer

Then depending on how bad it is, you may need
# 15 - 733121020 x 1 - Lever

Another thing to try is to tighten up the bolt as much as possible untill you get new bushes did this to my brothers car and lasted a good 12 months probably more!

no...take the boot from around the shifter off....grab 2 12mm spanners and off you go...will need to undo the spring and plate from selector from underneath the car but you'll have no problems....easy to do
