Gearbox stub axles

Post by Pommiebrat » Sat Jul 05, 2008 7:40 am

Anyone able to describe how to swap the stub axles on an EA82 5 sp d/r transmission? Mine have 25 splines and I need ones with 23 splines (I think that's correct) to take normal brumby axleshafts.

Cheers,

John

have u considered changing the d/o joint to match the spline stub axle?
much easier than changing stub axle in gearbox imo.

That would be lot easier rather pulling gearbox apart to change the stubs.

Yeah managed to find a line diagram and realise I've got to split the whole transmission to swap them. Someone mentioned you could do it from the outside but that doesn't appear to be the case. I take it liberty or l-series doj's will fit onto brumby axles ok?

If found sometimes you need to mix and match between the 2 models but if my memory serves me right, last time I did this I used the Brumby drive shaft with inner joint off a early EJ18 2WD drive shaft, I think it was from a import Legacy or early Impreza ;)

Definitely much easier than splitting the box... IMO

The MPFI L gearboxes are the same spline count as the Liberty CV's, yet the rear diff remained 23 splines for the male stub axle diffs...
