Saw a dyno test where they had the intake poking out through the headlight hole (no lights) with no filter at all, just a big pipe. The power gain was less than 5% over the stock filter and placement

Just curious,
Is it possible to keep all of the emissions gear with a weber?
I'm not sure where the pcv is ment to go but I assume that will stay.
The carbon canister and all of its stuff, that surely can't be hooked up can it?

Cheers Cam

this diagram shows the basic plumbing to keep the carbon canister

I did notice that it is reversed for 2 of the pipes on my brumby (I never changed them thats how they were hooked up) just make note of where pipes go before you unplug everything.

as for the PCV 90% of the plumbing for that can stay. (or depending on the car be put in a box and thrown on a shelf) you do need positive crankcase ventilation to make the engine run properly and to stop moisture from forming in the engine on cool down.

If you are creative, you can modify the factory air cleaner and mount it on the webber. That way you can hook up all the pcv hoses.

Thanks for that info Paul. I'm seriously thinking about a weber. Is there much hassle fitting those emission pipes mate?
I didn't think you'd need a permit, most of our cops would'nt know what a weber was (perhaps i won't tell hem). thanks for the link, the yanks cream us on price eh?

http://www.subarubrat.com/Retrofitting% ... V%2032.htm

some useful information on the conversion.

somewhere on the board is a thread showing the modification of the subi aircleaner as well

I have two top hats for my weber.
One to fit a pod filter/ a 3" or so pipe. ( not sure of size)
And another for the factory air cleaner.
Not sure what setup I'm going to use yet.
Still thinking snorkel. Hehe

If I ever did a weber (I was going to at one point) I would go all out to keep the factory look. Yeah for any cops looking but I also just don't like things to look odd :) That way the PCV system would stay the same at least.

Yes, Toonga and a few others helped me with my weber conversion when I installed the ea81.

Out of that conversation came the following that might help you Cam.

On the dizzy side of the engine on the valve cover I just have a 70mm long peice of heater hose at the end of which is one of those tiny air filters.

On the other side I have a longer heater hose with the PCV valve on it into the manifold. air can circulate from one side to the other then into the intake. only one way.

The rest is a blurr...because I could do away with the carbon canisters. That round top hat is 75mm diameter. see my conversion thread last year and you'll see the vacuum tubes going to a cone filter. they look crap though. I'd try and get a plate on the stardard air filter body to suit the weber. at least it gives you options
