My Brumby motor G Box options
the Tyres on the forester were 15" with the EJ box.
As I will be running 13" tyres i think it safer to use the taller ratio EA box. which I think is 3.7:1. (I hope)

You're right there, but even with the EA box it'll still be buzzing higher than it does in the foz or liberty. But with the 23 inch stock tyres you're right. One way around this:revmax wrote:the Tyres on the forester were 15" with the EJ box.

3.7 ring and pinion gearset from an EJ gearbox, it'll be directly interchangable and you can use the EA speedo gear to keep your speedo true. Best of every world then! But a few more dollars to get the parts together.
The reason for this setup would be to make the most of the taller 5th gear for lower cruising rpm

Foz is 1.41:1 I think and the L series is 1.59:1Gannon wrote:2.0L Foresters had a lower low range that was pretty similar to the L series one.

Bernie, it is going to take some time to "Sink in" what you are saying. To be honest I think I will have pull a gearbox appart to have some understanding of what you are saying.

Hey Bernie.
Any chance you could make the photo in your sig narrower cause it is causing the text in your posts to be cropped on the right hand side.

I realise this is the case. This is what the internals of the 5 speed gearbox looks like, it's basically the same between the EA and EJ gearboxes with the main difference being the pinion shafts, there are other minor differences if you start swapping 5th between gearboxes as I don't think this will work. Here's an EA dual range 5 speed, note the gear on the bottom shaft (pinion) at the left of the picture:revmax wrote:Bernie, it is going to take some time to "Sink in" what you are saying. To be honest I think I will have pull a gearbox appart to have some understanding of what you are saying.

And here's an EJ dual range 5 speed, note the lack of the gear in the left of the pic, rather two short splined shafts where the centre diff mounts:

As you can see they look the same. But there are differences such as gear ratios and the pinion shaft between the two gearboxes.
Now if you got a foz (EJ AWD dual range gearbox) and a 3.7 ratio liberty gearbox (Gen2 I think), you can take the 3.7 ring and pinion gear from the liberty gearbox and put it into the foz box without too much trouble. The real technical bit is getting the diff preload etc sorted, but a gearbox place should be able to do this bit of work for you easily enough. Advantage of all this work? Well you get the foz low range and a diff ratio that will match the gearing to the tyre size to keep the revs vs speed as they were in the foz with the factory foz wheels. Clear as mud?
Hmmm. I've not got his problem - I've got a 15 inch screen and it well and truly fits without issue. I also use the VB style - this can be selected in the bottom left of the forumrevmax wrote:Any chance you could make the photo in your sig narrower cause it is causing the text in your posts to be cropped on the right hand side.

AHHHH , "sinking in " now thanks Bennie.

I have just realised the output splines on the EA82 box are different to the ones one the EA81 box.
Does this mean I will have to take the ends of the EA82 CV shafts and fit them to the EA81 CV shafts. If this is possible.
