Brumby Diff
Brumby Diff
Hey guys, after flooding my gearbox i thought it would be a good idea to check the diff oils as well. Thing is it looks like i need a special square type allen key to get the bottom plug off. The Subaru Parts Dept said they dont sell the tool required, so what do i need to get/use to get the plug off?
Cheers in advance RubiSubi.

Get creative - use a high tension bolt that's larger than the hole it needs to fit, then grind it down to shape, chuck to nuts on it, tighten them up/weld in place and have a go at it.
I've never thought about the diff plug holes being square, even though I've looked at them over and over.
Good luck with it

1/2 Inch driver was spot on, Thanks lads, Although i needed a piece of pipe 700mm long to lever it open! I dont think the diff oil has been checked since 1985 and the bolts were F$%^*N tight. All good now though! For the record Trade tools sold the driver for $3.50??? So much for a specialised tool.
interesting...special tools http://subaru.spx.com/grpsrt.asp?id=6
so thats right, subaru does not actually supply tools, but that doesn't mean
you can't get them.
however, alot of them you could fabricate/mod something yourself:)
wonder if there is an equivalent supplier here in Aus, anyone know?

Everything is a special tool "only the techs have". Thats the only way they can con you into getting your service done for you.
