Carbie float sticking

Post by subius » Wed Nov 14, 2007 11:37 am

Hey guys,

recently I swapped a ea81 twin carb manifold onto my ea82. Goes great, except occaisionly the float in the drivers side carb sticks, consequently flooding the engine till it stalls, and leaking fuel all over the hot block.

not ideal. Anyone ever experienced floats sticking in carbies? twins or single? Mechanic had a quick look when they were being tuned and said there was nothing obvious he could see.

any ideas ?

i do have a fire extinguisher in the car now too ;)

More than likely the needle and seat is binding and not allowing the float to rise.
Or a piece of your fuel line has gone through holding the needle off the seat,
happened to a mate of mine after he assembled his carby fuel line.

But if you can't fix it, I'll buy the twins off you, maybe?
Regards

Gary ;)

What are the floats made of? are they metal or that strange black stuff that they sometimes use? have seen the black stuff suffer from osmosis and fill up with fuel and they become sinks instead of floats!

Lots of Ks,A/C, MP3 sometimes(if its not dark) singing steering wheel cover which I listen too when its dark.
