Should be able to get hold of a clutch kit for about $400 or less. I'd say you wouldn't get change out of $800 for a drive-in drive-out job at a mechanic's place.

Subaru have far more than 1 model of Liberty available at any given year.
Yes there are front wheel drive versions AND awd versions...

??? AWD that can be turned off  Must be an Auto? Which in this case it wouldn't need the clutch changed? IMO

Not sure of anyone over your way but I'm sure someone over there will let you know if they have found a good mechanic...

Over in the West, most mechanics are charging around $55/hr and the job shouldn't take more than 3 to 4 hours... as for the price of the clutch, it will depend on what brand you buy... Plus there is the machining work (flywheel) and the spigot bearing, again around the $60 to $70 mark.

Woooahh

are u serious $55 an hour?

i dont no of ne1 who charges that.

seems to me its usually $88 to $99 an hour.

with dealers being very greedy up at like $110 plus (i have heard of $132 an hour :o )

i guess it would be nice for the people paying if mechanics charged $55/hour :p

if i was to have a guess at pricing, id say 400 labour (around 100/hour for 4 hours) then clutch kit ontop of that and flywheel machine and spigot bearing also
so liek andrewT says, probably like 800 or less

I got H/D clutch (kit with throw out bearing etc) for my Liberty 1995 model costed me $350 plus bearing $6 from CBC and did the job in 5 hours myself. I had a quote from mechanic was gonna charge me $850 for them to do it including the clutch. So i did it myself wasnt that hard but mine was AWD.

Dont forget above posting its FWD so I would say 3 hours tops because its FWD - lot easier than AWD.

FYI - Only Automatic AWD can be turned off to FWD. But manuals can't be done!

Cheers

I can't imagine changing a clutch in an AWD Subaru to really be any more difficult than in a FWD. You have to drop the tailshaft off......but that's about the only difference surely? I'm ill right now, I must be missing a vital point :P

YES I am and I know at least 4 off the top of my head... I know prices have gone really silly in Perth lately, so I'm sure there are plenty of places charging more. I'm like many people... You find a good one (Mechanic) and you stick with them, even if they are charging over $100/hr. It's all what your happy with :)
