Rear brake noise/ backfire

Post by steest » Sat Feb 02, 2008 8:36 pm

Hello all,
First time posting. Have been given an 82 sportswagon by a generous family member 140 000 km, small rust bits that are already fixed-great little wagon except left rear brakes make a noise on application. Have tries 2 new sets of pads and had the drum machined. Mechanic is stumped. Noise only happens on left rear when brake is applied.
Second problem is that it tends to run a bit rough particularly when hot. Coming off highway put in clutch and flame out. Not all the time. Is it time to fit new carby parts? Mechanic stumped on this one as well. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Not sure at all what to do next. steve

errr i say try a decent mechanic.

check all bushes around rear left.

Coming off highway put in clutch and flame out.
as in u get a flame out ur zorst. :???:

running rough sounds like the A/F mix needs adjusting. or failing that yer a carby rekit wuld do wonders. shuld only cost somewhere round 50 for the Kit.
Have tries 2 new sets of pads
Hope ur mechanic didnt tell u that they are pads inside the drums :p they are called Brake Shoes lol

Thanks for the help-Im going to try a carby kit. My stuff up, yep its shoes. flame out in that it stalls- I dont even know what ur zorst means? If the bushes were stuffed wouldnt the noise be there all the time? Mechanic is trying hard maybe just to busy/hasnt worked on them blah blah blah. thanks again for taking time to help, greatly appreciated.

haha sorry for that shit spelling....

bushes - no wuldnt have to be there all the time. theres bushes that if are worn/ broken/screwed etc will allow the wheel to move back when u brake then will cause noise as it moves the bushes kinda thing.

if ya follow
