Removing the plug on the oil pump

Post by Gannon » Sat May 26, 2007 7:10 am

My oil pump is the one off a vortex and has the gauge type pressure sender and i need to put the warning light pressure switch on, but i can remove that little plug with the square head

Any suggestions or hints of how to remove it?

been looking at that meself, thinking if it won't budge a little heat might do it from the gas torch. It did not budge when off the motor tho it might now it is back on and motor in.

UPDATE.

The plug head is 7.0mm square so only accepts open end or special square spanner. In car it is in a tight spot to apply flame heat, so close to timing covers. All heat soaked away too fast to work.

Rather than risk causing more grief i think we need to find an adapter from gauge plug hole to idiot light size - maybe right angled

If anyone has solved this problem a part number and place of supply would be greatly appreciated

Fixed, i got a ring spanner and tapped it on, then ever so gently applied pressure, and it came undone. But be very careful not to strip the head.

lucky fella. engine not in at that time was it ?

7mm open enders don't come all that big, or strong and square is not much fun for contact surface. The inlet manifold has same size plg head on the lhs top side too. I think the rear brake adjuster heads are 7mm and there is a special tool for them that may fit this - looking for adapter first up tomorrow

If you have access to welding equipment you could tack weld something to it ie a nut and unscrew it with a socket or ring spanniard .

Just a thought cheers A .

I found a brass adapter #21024-0602 , at autopro. vdo make 'em and so do tube fit industrial products 1800 777 299 under $5, so anyone can fit aftermarket gauges and the like i suspect. shoulda gone there on Saturday in the first place.

as for that plug that doesn't wanna come out, it can stay there !
