Coolant leaking from gasket
I have coolant leaking from gasket:

I'm putting in a ej22 engine hopefully very soon, does anyone know if there's anything I can do to stop or slow the leak till I get the new engine in?

I'm wary of stop leak stuff as I've heard it clogs up the radiator. Mine is a nice new all alloy radiator & I want to keep it nice & shiny on the inside for the new engine.
One thing I've wondered is if it reacts with coolant, in particular Subaru coolant which is a bit finnicky. Maybe if I flush out the Subaru coolant & use an aftermarket one there won't be any issues?

Why would changing a water pump stop a head gasket leak?taza wrote:Just chnage water pump.
There are a few types of stop leak formulas out there most will not clog up the radiator or engine if the directions are followed.
Is the engine overheating?
If not don't bother with a stop leak remedy just drive it normally until you get the motor to swap in.
Raw eggs will block a radiator and are only for quick fixes to get you to safety, as is pepper or chook pellets all of which are in barrs stop leak
sliver seal or liquid copper work well but you must follow the directions.
Steptoe knows of one he swears by but I can't remember its name

ooh, got childhood memories of the chubby baldy guy at the servo adding a pelletised radiator stop leak to dads car just before a holiday. They could have been crushed or dissolved first to avoid the overheating we got.....
Sealwel is amazing stuff, that dissolves nicely, never block a radiator core on me - in fact, the importer in melbourne to be found on ebay says it is a regular service item for heavy equipment not just a quick fix - mystery black block serves as a soapy smelling glovebox car freshener until you use it

Thanks guys.
Yeah, Ive heard of using pepper for a bush remedy lol
I ended up getting Goss Chemiweld. Instructions are very specific...
System must be clean, ie, no scale.
Flush all the coolant so straight water.
Must keep the fins of the radiator fully covered or the Chemiweld will try to block them.
Run hot but don't let it boil as it reacts with air.
I'll let you know how it goes...
