Heater coolant direction

Post by Tweety » Wed Dec 24, 2014 10:45 pm

Can anyone tell me on the ea81 where the heater hose connects to the water pump, whether the coolant is being sucked into the pump at that point or forced out of the pump. My guess is it is being sucked into the pump.

Of course I can't find the page in the FSM to confirm that Tony but post 10 in this thread on USMB http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/top ... er-cooled/ has a diagram that says it is the return from the heater.

i REMEMBER FLOW IS OUT DIRECTion from the metal pipe at the back of inlet manifold, so agree that pump is pulling it back through its top 16mm hose connection

Yep, got it. so the pump draws coolant from the lower radiator hose and the heater core into it then pumps it into the engine.
Thanks

Thanks
That's it mate!

And as a trivial point, in an L series if you have your heater connected the wrong way around it will make a gurgling sound on start up/increase in revs ;)
