ideal brumby engine

Post by thunder039 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 7:21 pm

gday everyone i have just picked up a second 89 Brumby that i plan to get back on the road, the car is basically complete minus the engine, the gearbox etc is all there. was wondering what engine would be the best and easiest to fit that is compatible with the stock 4sp?
was thinking the ea82 rather then the stock ea81, would this be a suitable replacement and easy enough to fit with out having to modify to much?
any help would be appreciated! :D

EA82 is a lot wider and needs chassis rail modification to fit.

Of the two engines, you are better off with an EA81.

Simple would be an EA81. if you're going to retrofit then skip the EA82 and get an EJ motor. EA82 is a marginal performance increase (if any?), but it is a more complicated engine which makes it less reliable. EJ's are more reliable with a decent performance and economy improvement.

I've spent a bit of time and outlay of cash to make my EA81 a really terrific reliable motor. Get rid of the points, and if the carby is cactus then go for a weber. Valve clearances are probably the next thing and something i need to do.

Depends on the application...

Remote outback = EA81

Everything else = EJ

Would not bother with the EA82
