Ratio swaps

Post by FujiFan » Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:30 pm

Hi all
I have a FT5spdD/R from JDM L'series with 3.7 front and matching rear (open). Just picked up a S/R PT 5spd (AUSDM) with, naturally a 3.9 front and matching rear (also open). I understand that the S/R boxes have shorter gearing and would like to put S/R 3.9 and gearset into FT box to negate loss from bigger wheels. Also not sure how to identify if FT box has 1.19 or 1.59 lowrange. Can any one enlighten me. I would like to DIY unless its best given to Transmission mechanic. ???

no Idea on the ratios being taller or shorter in the 3.9 box, but if it is a L series box there is a 99% chance that the dual range is 1.59 unless the box was from a turbo engined L. sadly the L series is the only FSM I dont have yet

I'm certain the FT box was from turbo model. But to clarify my intentions im not looking to run massive muddies or anything, just use liberty or impreza 15" 16" or maybe 17" wheels when I get round to crossbred upgrade. Still would value useful low range though..

FT4WD box is 1.19 low range, but it has very short gearing and i couldn't even tell the difference between PT4WD in first with 1.59 and FT4WD with 1.19.

3.9 conversion should go straight into FT4WD box. I have no idea about the S/R ratio's.

Cheers,
Rhys
