Motor and Gearbox weight.
Motor and Gearbox weight.
Hi guys, I'm new to the site and am in need of some help. I am wanting to build a trike with a front mounted motor and I like the look of the subaru motor and that it is a alloy motor. I don't know which box to use yet so I'll be asking you guys about gearboxes both auto and manuals as well as motors.
First off I'd like to know the weight of the subaru motors fitted with the starter, altenator and anything else you reckon I'd need to run it in a trike. I'm thinking of a 2 litre motor, but will consider others. It all comes down to the weight of the motor and gearbox. Got to keep the weight as low as possible.
BTW, I almost forgot about the diff. What diff would you guys reckon mend? I want to stick to an independant rear end but must be good for hi way running.
Well I better not add any more to the thread as there is enough here to give anyone a head ache. If any of you can help me out with any info about motors, geaboxes and diffs then I'd greatly appreciate it.
Cheers Shaun.

welcome to the board SSS not sure on the weight of the box and engine together
but what I can tell you is that all subaru boxes are transaxle they have a centre diff with 2 stub axles for the front wheels, so if you want to build a trike it would probably be easier to use a front wheel drive 5 speed box
good luck with it
