How to put clutch back in on ej20?
hi guys,
This may be a stupid question but i only played with the cable push type clutches before and im not to sure how to put the pull type one back in.
Do i bolt the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel and clip the trust bearing to it and slide the engine on the Gbox?
Or do i bolt the clutch plate to the flywheel and place the trust bearing on the fork, and then slid the Engine to the Gbox?
Or is there another way?
If you could explain in steps it would be greatly appreciated.

Clutch on flywheel aligned ready to go, and thrust bearing ready to go on the gearbox side clipped on.

This is the way I've done it a few times and it worked;
Clip the thrust bearing into the pressure plate then slide the gearbox on with the fork just dangling, held in by the rubber boot at the top.
Then take the little rubber boot thing off where the fork comes through and hold onto the fork. It's pretty easy to get the fork to slot into the thrust bearing by dangling it. You can see whats happening easily enough through the hole where the fork comes out the bellhousing.
Then once the fork is in the thrust bearing you can slide the pivot rod through the side of the gearbox, then through the fork and it will all line up.
Then pop the rubber boot back on at the top of the fork and mount your slave cylinder.
I like this method because it guarantees the thrust bearing is properly clipped onto the pressure plate because its the first thing you do.
Good idea to bleed the slave cylinder BEFORE you bolt it to the gearbox though. Lift the slave cylinder up so it's physically higher up than the master cylinder while you bleed it - it's easier this way because the bubbles naturally rise. They can be a real pain to bleed with them bolted down on the gearbox.

Wow Andrew, You got the best details in your explanation ever:) I was able to visualise exactly what to do:)
I got this on RSliberty, i read it 5 times and still had no idea what to do lol.
" Put the thrust bearing on first.
You then lift the clutch for up as you fit the gearbox and engine together then lower the clutch for into the slots on the thrust bearing.
Thats how I do it anyway."

lol @ that explanation. If you substitute the word "clutch" with the word "fork", it makes sense.
Note I'm sure the way AR suggested works fine too. I've heard of that way too it's just not how I tackled it when I did it. I kindof make stuff up as I go along. That way might even be easier.

heh... im guessing everyone has their own opinion of doing mechanics... I have my way, AndrewT has his way - whatever is easier for them is best..
