Diff Centre Swap - Open to LSD
Diff Centre Swap - Open to LSD
G'Day Suba Fans,
I've been searching all week for a thread that I read last year of swapping diff internals. Does anybody have it subscribed? If the author reads this can you forward it to me?
I have a 3.9 STi LSD available to me, is it a reasonable ask to fit it into a 3.9 MY housing?
Or, is there any possibility of fitting up the STi inner cups to MY shafts? And resizing the prop shaft?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Dane.

I'm 99% it was AP (AlpineRaven) who posted it

You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

Yes thats correct, yes it was me posting it..
Here is pics below -
the tailshaft end has to be changed to suit as they're all different, but the splines should fit.
CV cups are the same with R160 diffs, so it can be changed both way.. you're better off using LSD's cups in normal diff.
refer this link from other thread.
Cheers

the stubs looks like this -
Normally Ive noticed wreckers dont realise that stubs belongs to the diff where it can come out with CV joints - like in this pic above.
You can install LSD newer diff centre in your L series diff housing, but you will need to grind this off -
(if you grind upto the hole where the bearing retainer bolt hole is - that is ok no need to worry if you went too far but stop there once you see the hole appearing.)

Thanks very much AP
So R160 (from STi) cups can be used on L series CV shafts (and L outer)?

I have a funny feeling - I dont think it'll fit, which I cannot be sure... I dont think L series's female will fit on newer male stubs.. (L series is smaller/less teeths than newer ones) Hence you'll have to find one from gen 1 Liberty rears as it has female - male.. where about Gen 2 Liberty has male to male.Dane wrote:Thanks very much AP
