Post by jimmeh14 » Tue Feb 16, 2010 6:00 pm

Hi all,
I have a 1995 Subaru Liberty LX and unfortunately it's only FWD :(
I'm looking into making it AWD but i just can't find anything!!
I know a bloke whos selling the rear diff and suspension from a 1989 Subaru Liberty, but will this fit my car??
thanks :)

I have a gen 2 liberty Lx ( awd )

any of the WRX GC8 / RX / Gen 1 liberty / Gen1 series 2 liberty rear end c/w fuel tank will be a direct fit to you car.

Is it a wagon or sedan as you will need the rear struts from the same & the rear sway bar

all up should cost you a awd gear box, tail shaft wagon or sedan, zorst

just by a crashed awd gen two at the auctions for bugger all and swap that into yours , you will have every thing.

Yeah the bloke is selling it with the entire rear suspension and the diff but no tail shaft so i'll have to get a tail shaft and an AWD gear box.
it is a sedan.
is that all i would need?

Yes correct - both gen 1 & 2 share same fuel tanks, but the Gen2 rear diff carrier is slightly different to gen1..

Wagon & sedan struts & coils are the same. But FWD & AWD rear suspensions are different, you will need AWD hubs as well..

Exhaust can be used both wagon or sedan but im not sure about the length of rear muffler - i know i have Gen 1 Sedan's middle exhaust in my wagon.

Make sure you have the same final drive ratio!

Normally Gen 1 manuals are 3.9:1 final drive, Gen 2 is 3.7:1 final.
On Gen 1 has a sticker on the rear diff cover and tells you whatever the ratio is. Worst case is to open the cover and count the teeths, same goes with the gearbox. (Subaru has 2 diff plus centre diff)
