EJ20 & EJ22 Engine Builds

Post by dadcanyou? » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:56 pm

I am attempting to find out the following
1. Are the crankshafts and rods in an EJ20 & EJ22 the same?
2. If the above is YES can the EJ22 crank, rods & block (using aftermarket pistons) be used to build up a 2.2lt Turbo Engine.

as far as im aware the only diferance on the bottom end of the ej20 /22 engines is the piston size

apart from the ej20 being closed deck in some cases
- 92 brumby, ej22, MT5AWD, lseries low range, centre diff lock, glf5 dash, 5 stud conversion
lifted 3" front 2" rear all rolling round on 27" khumo Kl71's
more in progress ie:adaptronic ecu and sc14 supercharger

I think from back of my head, the crankshaft is the same but pistons are different.
I know that EJ25's crank is different again, if you put EJ25 in EJ22 it'll become EJ235 (2.35litre)

Yeah as they've said above - I don't think the bottom end is beefier in the EJ22 over the EJ20. Cheapest way to go is to get a turbo half cut. Or try and get a turbo EJ22 block from the US, they got them in the legacy over there from what I've read.
