Help Guys I have gremlins in my car. Took it to east gippsland on the weekend the engine ran fine besides the lack of power at 100kmh. But on the way back I lost tail lights and its not a fuse and the wierdest part is the guages died at one stage and this was due to it blowing the meter engine fuse. I swapped it out and they came back continued on but the the check engine light would come on till I lifted my foot of the loud pedal and it would go out then five mins later it would come back on again same again foot off out it would go. It blew the meter engine fuse another time on the way back. Any help how to chase out these bloody gremlins would be nice.
Cheers

Have you Checked The engine codes?? Using the black and green plugs under the dash?

hehehe... Real helpful there timmo, going for the distract move yeah?

Do you know of any wires that pass through the firewall without a rubber grommet?

I'm guessing that the fuse would have gone first if there was a wire exposed to the body.

All other components working well?

Check the fault codes, it may not help the tail lights but may be the lead for the engine problem.

Good luck

I have not got as far as the engine code probs yet been working on the tail light drama. Hows this for strange there is power at the combination switch on the steering wheel but no power getting to the parkers or tail lights. I thought it might have been the switch on top but I swapped the whole combo switch out for one that I know was working fine still no luck. So I thought I would run new wires from the combo switch to the lights so I cut the wire coming from the parker line of the combo switch and attached three new wires. Before I had a chance to connect these I tested to see if I had killed anything else. Guess what the parkers and tail lights now work even though the wire is cut but the dash lights no longer work! What the F***ing hell is going on here this is insane. The doesn't appear to be any lose wires under the dash as I had most of that out while tracing the parker wire.
Any help would be good

Check the dash dimmer switch the one that allows you to set the brightness of the instrument cluster. My lights wouldn't work without this when I didn't have my dash surround installed.

If you've got another one stick it in and see if there's any change.

PS, I'll try this out tonight if i remember and get back to you about it.
