NEED HELP! Air injection system (Silencer) blown

Driving along, hit duck, then my L starts sounding like a tractor (more so than usual) - the duck doesn't have anything to with it but it tasted nice.

The silencer (i.e. the part of the air injection system that connects to the reed valve via hose) is completly blown apart at the elbow.

This was meant to be fixed last week by my mech, he installed (plumbed was his word) a one way valve in the outlet off the carby that connects to the silencer via hose b/c allegedly the silencer is prone to failure and its impossible to find a new/ good cond 2nd hand one. Also said he cleaned it out as much as possible.

Q1 - did pressure build up b/c of the one way valve and blow the silencer?

Q2 - the one way valve also blew out (i thought if something is "plumbed in" that means it don't move...), would this have happened first then the silencer or vice versa

Q3 - would there be any other serious probs b/c of this, there was debris inside the carby (possibly down the choke valve?) and possibly into the reed valve and silencer, and is it drivable w/out doing further damage?

pics to follow, ANY help muchly appreciated.

Cut the metal pipe about 2 inches from the flange that connects to the exhaust outlet and flatten it and bend it back on itself.

Thanks suparoo, wanted the factory solution so picked up the silencer from the wreckers today.

Now i'm thinking that the hose to the silencer is connected wrongly. Of the three hoses coming out of the top RHS of the air filter box the middle one runs into nothing (thin air) and the bottom one (closest to the headlights) runs into the so-called 'air injection system' and silencer

Had a look at the scematic diagram in Gregorys workshop man, but can't find any hoses going into nothing.

Question is me thinks this should be the other way around, i.e bottom hose into nothing and middle running into the silencer... am i write /wrong /indifferent?

In my opinion, I would do the same as Subaroo said... "Off the record" ;) as I believe it has something to do with your emissions control for Aussie cars, as I have never seen these on Japan or USA cars.

thanks for help, finally fixed, idiot who 'fixed' it initially installed the one way valve in the wrong outlet and swaped the hoses around!!! - very hot exhaust gases were being shoved back into the carby and melting the air filter, and creating too much pressure for the silencer. Not bloody happy seeing as this guy's been given such a huge rap by everyone.
