EJ20g faultering @ low revs

Post by Cam » Fri Apr 11, 2008 2:40 pm

My 90 liberty has started missing @ low revs ie below 2k, above that its fine... only misses under load, ie in gear(auto) and accelerating. Fuel sytem seems alright, filters and stuff replaced, head gaskets seem alright, no oil in water vice versa...

Ignition? it has the original coils on top the spark plug?
Spark plugs should be good replaced with hi km ones 4 months ago...

Or something much worse ie rod rattle or somat?

Kinda annoying as ill be selling it soon and dont have a huge budget to fix if its anything major...

I don't know the range of Bosche coils really at all but I do know the ones people use for Ej20G is HEC-716 so I guess maybe those ones you have might be close enough.
If an Ej20G is missing then it's highly likely to be coils because the original ones are pretty crap. Even if it doesn't turn out to be the cause it's a worthwhile upgrade anyway. Apparently most people who do it can't believe the difference. You get more power and the engine runs much smooth.

If it's still not running right with new coils then change the spark plugs. Chances are they got all fouled up from running with the crappy coils. Would make more sense to just change them at the same time actually.

I still haven't actually done it myself yet!

$150 bucks or so and 3 hrs time its all converted, runs much smoother now, the hec-715 is exactly the same except its got the female connector on it, easier to get leads for...
