Hi,
Just wondering what the go is with modifying the L series gearshift linkages to accomodate the lift kit. Unfortunately the BYB lift kit instructions got wet and thus ruined before we fitted the kit, so now to engage 2WD we have had to remove the gear lever surround.
Also, if anyone has the full BYB instructions could you email them to me or post them?
Thanks.

When you lift the L series the lever is made to sit higher than normal not lower. The gear lever is pushed forward

I think Vidler and I put a small block under the rubber mount for the linkages to space it down a little to correct the angle.

the BYB instructions don't say anything about the linkages, they just don't fit properly afterwards.
I cut a chunk out of the plastic centre console in my old L series to accommodate the new low/high lever position. Lukily its not so bad in the newer model L series with the "bent" low/high selector - it just rubs and makes a terribly annoying squeeking noise instead.

you can bend it, in situ with an oxy...but be careful of starting fires
Then it works as it had before the lift

Yeah, two options, bend it or block it.
A 1" block should be enough with a 2" kit.

Every now and then we get a car that the linkages play up in. 9 out of 10 cars do not have an issue with the linkages. The first thing I would say you should be doing is making sure the linkages are in good condition, that is with no slop or stuffed busches.
If that does not work then do as already stated. Drop the rear mount for the linkages by about 10-15mm.
