just got my car back on the road after rebuilding engine and have been very happy until yesterday was going round a mini roundabout (as you do) i let go of the steering wheel and was surprised to find that i didnt centre .... nearly crashed into the kerb by the time i reacted (must be getting old)...steering is now very very notchy and hard to turn the wheel power steering pump is okay so im thinking the rack is not very well have sourced one at the wreckers for $100

was just wondering if this has happenned to anyone else and why????

It's very possible it could just be the steering extension uni joints. They may need replacing. A good way to test is to cover them in grease and test it out. This will "fix" the problem for now however it's not a permanent fix.
It could be the rack but check the extension first because it would be cheaper if thats it.

I'd check the tie rod and rack ends for excessive play. You could also get a wheel alignment done, but not before you check the tie rods and rack ends because if they're stuffed an alignment is pointless.

I would have to say it will most likely be the steering extension unis or uni, best thing to do is replace it.
