EJ22 Timing Belt

Having trouble getting the timing marks to be precise, once fitted and I rotate the crank manualy to get the belt to settle in, one of the cam pullies is out by half a tooth.

This belt has done about 50,000k but I remember that I noticed this when it was new. And it looks in good shape.

? Are some timing belts better than others ?

The engine is running ok but has a bit of a random miss, I have just fitted fully reconditioned heads with mono torque gaskets and new head bolt all torqued with precision.

? Can the timing setup be causing the miss or is there something else it could be such as an injector. Im using super 4 plugs, new leads and coil pack.

Can you give me some theories or some diagnostic advise?:

When you re timed the engine did you line the marks on the cam wheels and crank with the marks on the belt?

No, just been reading up on that, you think thats the main cause?

This brand of belt called "Gate" worth going for you think?

The timing marks on the cam covers are more of a guide to lining everything up prior to putting the belt on. When you fit the belt you line the dotted line up with the crank mark and having the belt correctly orientated line the solid lines up with the marks on the cam wheels. Gates belts are good belt. Make sure the arrows are going in the correct direction (orientation) and it will be sweet first go.

If it still has a miss it will be a plug lead or something along those lines. I have only ever seen 2 crank or cam sensors die and that was because they where full of oil.

Your instruction are spot on and as you said sweet the first go. The timing marks where faided so I counted out the teeth as it described in the book to double check.

Thanks again.
