Minor Engineering Required

Well at least I hope its bloody minor. Now I know the L sedan shell I purchased for the RX conversion was 2WD however what I failed to cheek, and I discovered recently, is that the bloody thing does not have the captive nuts (on the underside of the car, in the tunnel behind the gear box) for the centre bearing / drive train to bolt to.

In addition to this I am also concerned about where the diff hanger (moustache bar) bolts to the rear of the car. Even thought there is space to drill and tap, I am concerned that it will not be reinforced enough to withstand the torque/load that the diff may place on this.

Are their solutions to either of these issues or something that someone has come across before?

I have some ideas about how I may be able to solve both of these issues however felt that maybe other consultation / experiences may yield some ideas / solutions.

Note 1 - I am reluctant to ditch this project given the current time and energy put into it and I think that it’s a good long term platform given it’s a very rust free car.

Note 2 - I am also aware that money can purchase me anything however I do not have bottomless pockets.

Note 3 – Should a relative cheep, reliable and hopefully easy solution present itself then I may also have my second Subaru project sorted (but more on that later as a few other things need to happen first).

Thanks

ditch the project - i cant believe you had that thought!

this has been covered heaps of times on this forum. make some mounts, or use a single piece shaft.

I was gettin' worried for you there and remembered the flat bar trick I used to stick the centre bearing to my Brumby floor - looks a bit unrego-ish. Someone said last of rear wheel drive maz626 had a nice bracket for this task, nearly bought a whole car just for one - yet to get one though

Thanks, for the feedback. I can not access the webshots accounts atm (due to restrictions – if your board and feeling generous you could e-mail them to me lol).

Brenny I may contact you about this to see how similar my thoughts are to yours can you PM me your contact details and I’ll give you a ring.

Steptoe, thanks for raising the rego issues as the car is currently not registered so its going to have to look decent (whatever I decide, more so wit the centre bearing then the diff hanger).

Thanks Alpine and Andrew, progress has been almost non existent recently however seeing your project(s) and Tim’s RX has inspired some motivation. If your hoist is still at Subarino’s I may pinch it this weekend (if its ok with you)so I can pull the engines out.
