Howdy

My 86 leone ea82 carby model which my son is using at the moment runs and revs smooth untill you hit 3500 - 4000 then it just like it hits a wall the engine is running smooth and holds it speed but it stops pulling.

I have taken of the air cleaner off and checked if any of the vacuum hoses may have come off or broken but can't see any.

It is like it is starving for fuel when it gets to these revs, I have just had a look down the throat of the carby With my son pushing the throttle to the floor the primary valve is opened fully the secondary valve is only opened about 1/2 to 1 mm, So i am thinking that is not enough and needs adjustment? if this is so how much should it open eg fully or close it ??

Ok I have now checked the vacuum secondary and with the primary open and sucking on the vacuum can the secondary opens fine.

I am thinking maybe a new fuel filter may help or could it be that the fuel pump is losing pressure

thanks

think the 2ndry is load sensitive too and may need to be on a dyno to see it open if you wanna look unda bonnet at same time. carby cleaner is good stuff

check all the smart stuuf like plug condition, timing, points, leads, compression, fuel filters, fuel line clear inside to tank ?

Howdy steptoe

thanks for posting back so quick

I have check all above including putting a new fuel filter on a few minutes ago and it made no change, dissy is electronic, leads are on tight and are only a few months old the fuel is flowing fine from tank, I have a spare fuel pump here so I am going to change the pump over to see if it is getting low on pressure, before I do that I will give your idea about the carby cleaner ago as I have some here at home.

thanks

I rekon it could be your catilitic converter.

I had one clog up on me and i had trouble reving out.

With the engine running, walk around to the back of the car and listen to the exhaust, does it make the normal "dud dud dud" noise or is it more of a "haaaaaaaaah" kinda noise.

Have you checked the timing and distributor?

Sounds like a main jet issue. Remove carby from manafold should be two plugs underneath fuel bowl 14 or 17mm from memory for the drain you can see the jets through drain holes should be 7mm on the jets take them out then blow them out and put back together.Use a areomotive nonsilcone based goop to put on manafold gasket.Fuel will react with silicon. Need to Drain Water coolant as carby is water heated. Good luck
