03' Impreza RV key/ignition problem???

Post by BENduro » Mon Nov 12, 2007 12:15 pm

Thought you guys might be able to help on this one...My folks have a 03 impreza rv with 80000 on the odo. Yesterday they had trouble getting the key into the ignition barrel (notchy) and as such were unable to start the car! Fortunately after alot mucking around with the key they got it started and drove straight to subaru. The dealer workshop used some graphite spray in the ignition and said that it may be the key ($150) or the barrel ($1000+).
Has anyone else heard of this happening:confused:
Remedies:confused:
What could have caused it:confused:

P.S My parents have had the vehicle from new and keep it very well (no sand/dirt etc).

Cheers in advance.

There hasnt been something fall in the barrel has there? Unless there is anything broken off the key?

Cant say that unless the car is over 25years old i have not had a problem with an ignition key barrel before

Key looks to be fine and as stated the oldies are not the types to have sand or dirt in the car or pockets/handbags where keys might be carried.
