Don't know if any one would know what's causing this. OK so if I'm going around a bend in the road at over 20kph and mainly turning left i think, theres a thudding in the steering wheel that you can feel and sometimes hear if the radio is turned down.

Sometimes i can feel it in the clutch pedal and sometimes in the accelerator. Also sometimes when I'm manoeuvring in first i can hear something squeak or whine at a similar rate but its worse when its been cold and wet. May be two separate thing I dunno. Used to do something similar while heavily braking but I devised it was a rock under the pad as it went away.

Yeah that's my story if it made any sense. Any ideas? I must get this fixed before I can do anything about the EJ conversion.

Get under the front end and look at both sides to compare, see if you notice anything different or missing. It sound like you have a worn out rubber in the front end or a loose control arm.

Also check your castle nut - the one on the end of the axle in the middle of the hub. One of my rear one's sheered through the retainer pin and loosened the nut a little (the remainder of the pin kept it there) allowing the hub to slide a little on the stub axle. It created an rather loud knocking sound when turning left, braking, hitting a bump and sometimes turning right after turning left (and hearing the knock).

Make sure you jack up the car to check as it may not look loose when sitting on the ground - also have a look for new worn metal parts, usually a good indicator that something is moving when it shouldn't be.

Had a look at that yesterday. Took the wheel off but it all looked fine. I'll just have to squeeze under the front and have a better look at everything later on.

Got under the front and couldn't really see anything out of whack, guess it's down to the mechanics and bye bye to my money.

Hmm new development, today it sounds like rubber rubbing against something when i turn but all the boots etc look fine. Still have a more constant whine when I'm driving kinda sounds like a bird and it's driving me nuts. Ill have to take the wheel back off and have a better look when i have time. Might just go pump the tyres for now as they look flat but I don't think that would add to it any.

or a sticky brake?

did u get round to doin what i said last time.

and to check a wheel bearing jack it up and spin it fast there should be no strange noises jsut a freerolling wheel

culd be low pads possibly. but check the bearing and for play.

OK finished all my uni crap for the year. So my first task was to check out this wheel. No real noises when it was jacked up and spinning but I could wiggle the wheel a fair bit. Just to make sure I jacked up the other side and checked it and it had preddy much no play. So I'm guessing its the wheel bearing. Now to look into fixing it. Then I can resume my motor search

On the down side I just noticed a chuck of rubber hanging off the side of my fairly new tyre so I'm a little annoyed by that.

So - if theres no real sound when the wheel is jacked up and spinning freely but the wheel can be wobbled - is that the Wheel bearing?

only if it can be wobbled up and down.

also need to check the tightness of the Hub Nut/Castle Nut/ whatever u want to call it as that is what holds the hub together.
if thats loose it cuases similair results and can generally fix it. (needs to be done up REAL tight remember lol)

I've got exactly the same problem wiht my front DS wheel - the ert ert ert sound on take off (going less than 5kph) and after seeing subafurys thread about wheelbearings decided that I'd better get to it. I got a price for a set of wheel bearings of $46 (for one wheel - does that sound reasonable?) and am going to have a crack at it myself on the weekend

The wobble on mine is up and down and after doing that it got even worse so i'm getting them replaced tomorrow.

sounds alright if its both with the seals..actually never seen the bearings coz mine are fine but yer does sound ok neway.

dunno if its easy job maybe they want a press on em?
