i cant solve the problem my L series keeps overheating, even on normal road surfaces it heats up 1/2-3/4 but as soon as it goes into 4wd the temp gauge goes up to the orange line which is super hot, even if you drive for 5 minutes it still heats up beyond belief, now im not sure whats going on or what i can do but its not good especially if your 350km from home in the middle of nowhere like i was on the weekend. what options could solve this dilemma?

basically changed oil, coolant, checked all wiring to make sure that the fan is turning on but it all seems a tad strange?

does it hold pressure?
culd be blocked rad or thermostat playing 'lets not open properly'
or a few other tings

lol my bet is u shuld take it somewhere and get some1 else to look at it
u no if it holds pressure by running it letting it get hot then trying to take the cap off

(but bewarned its hot)
look for bubbles appearing in the coolant and any smoke coming out the exhaust when the cars warm.
do u no if it pushes all the water into the overflow bottle?
do u no how to check when a thermostat opens?

the thermostat is opening as it drew coolant from the overflow bottle after a coolant change, so the thermostat is opening but it is odd that its running so hot?

well i reckon its on the money its logical eg; if you go up a hill the temp gauge goes up....logical, if you down a long hill it goes down but as soon as it goes into 4wd it doesn't matter if you don't drive anywhere just idling it still heats up beyond belief. but i just cant work out why it gets so hot

Radiator core could be blocked preventing it cooling down, if you have an access to another Radiator - give it a go and see if it changes anything.
Also change the thermostat if you don't know the history of it, for me I'd change it every 6 months due kms that I drive.
Cheers

My best bet is radiator. The original Suby radiators block up easily - change it and you'd be surprised.
