i find that as soon as i put the L series into 4WD the temperature gauge goes rather high 3/4 up, is this a common problem?

and thats basically when its just put in not after uve ben driving in 4wd fr awhile?

4wd makes the engine work harder resulting in raising the engine temp. But it shouldn't be that much.

Next time, get out and make sure the thermo fan is operating when the temp gauge is that high. If you don't have a fan running from the engine fan belts this will not help keep the temps down...

Other things that can be causing this is a blocked radiator - inside or out.

o well if were tlaking after workign the engine in 4wd then ill tell of my car

runs no thermostat and has a digi dash with 11 bars (i think thats how many) for the temp scale
usually on the road it runs on 3 bars and when working it hard offroad it will sometimes be on 5 or mainly 6
use to do that neway i have no idea nemore wt it runs at etc but the temp does definetely go up whne working it hard in 4wd

well i only ran it for say 20 minutes just low range climbing but heated up really fast, when you talk about the thermo fan is it possible to make that a manual thing?

culd be if the person nos wt they need to do lol

what other options do i have for keeping the temperature down? is a second fan a possibility?

Fitting a second fan if there is room is good, but it depends on what the real problem is. My radiator had to be replaced because it was on the way out and any offroad driving in 4x4 made it overheat. Now with new radiator and lower temp thermostat, it hardly ever gets to 1/3 of the scale when in 4wd.

Just wondering how many K's on the L and what condition the radiator and motor are in? I am assuming it is a standard motor, not turbo or an EJ conversion?

the L has done 280,000km and the stock motor is still in good condition, only minor faults. i'm not sure about the radiator, looks worn but haven't really looked into it as yet, maybe its an option of a radiator replacement and then possible twin fan set up.

u shuld be right in taking urs to get serviced (shuldnt be much mroe than $100 was $77 for me) where they will take a tank off and clean out all the insides of the rad and tell u if anything is wrong.

id start with that then see wt is said and wt happens after
