Post by subusurfer » Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:31 pm

im having trouble getting my L series out of 4WD, the dual range lever wont click out of high back into 2WD, it seems to only work if i put the car on a slight hill, not really sure why it does this if anyone else has or had this problem please let us know

Its called 4wd binding - the front and rear wheels are joined together and therefore spin at the same rate, when cornering the front try to rotate faster than the rear binding up the system placing weight on the gear teeth. This is what you're fighting against.

One way to try and get it out easier is spin your steering wheel one way and drive forward or backward a little bit and try it again. If that doesn't work, try it the other way.

You can also change it when driving at a stable speed (not changing via engine braking/acceloration) from 4wd to 2wd, makes changing easier.

If there is still some resistance when you get it from 4wd to 2wd you may hear a bang or thud - this is just the 4wd system releasing tension...

Hope this helps.

happens to alll of em. (abit of diff bind up i think) Take it to the gravel and nail it in 4wd, then it should come out. Otherwise just drive it strait for a while and smack it out.

A 50m straight reverse normally does it for me.

Yeah dazza has it right reverse straight back keep light preassure on the stick the other ways your sure to do damage but happens to all 4X4s turning on hard surfaces but keep her in 2wd unless really needed and you'll be right another thing i've heard but realy don't advise is to jack up one wheel.
