heres one i did a couple of years ago that turned a lot of heads. 1980 leone sedan honestly to my knowledge only ever came out two wheel drive, (feel free to corect me if i"m wrong) three very simple mods to do a 4WD convertion. first is the rear cross member holding the fuel tank in. move it toward the rear of the car about 4 inchs, allowing the 4wd tank to fit. two, make or take from a donor car the tunnel mount for the 4wd selector, and three take all the running gear out of that donor car and bolt it straight in. these cars are so interchangable its not funny and as far as most poeple are concerned most or all subys were 4wd so no-one will ever be the wiser. and they seem to be a lot more fun than the wagons.

How do you tell the difference between the MY and L series?
My 84 Brumby certainly has vented discs.

I can't believe the amount of differences between them all. Finding parts is a nightmare!

82 I think was the last year for non-vented discs...

1983 doors are slightly different to the 1982 and earlier M.Y's. They still use the same hinges and work the same, just the door mirrors are different.

you can fit a left mirror to a <1983 model coupe, the nut and flange is welded to the inside of the skin, even if the door never had a mirror (can also use '83> square type)

Having just fitted an L Series radius rod with its rubber bushes to my Brumby and so initial differences obvious - thought worth a mention in here. Brumby was ~17mm dia, L Series ~ 18mm dia. The dished washer welded to rod faces opposite direction between the models. Checked with Mr Pedder who has notation that one set of L Series rod bushes of the L Series can be used on MY, the second listing they have is not recommended due to slop. I retained L rubbers in the fit to Brumby. Now need to fit same to other side.

Later edit: found there is about a 5mm difference between what counts, the MY is longer. Still L worked OK for a temporary spare :)

Steering rack 'rack ends' between L and MY are not interchangeable due to the gender of the ends of each model, one rack end is male, while other rack end is female.

To unlock an MY door with key requires turn key anti clock, an L is turn clockwise.

A Vortex , loosely based on L Series stuff is opposite the L series, turn key anti clockwise !!

I think that's only from the driver's side, if you unlock passenger side it's clockwise, in other words from either side you're turning the key towards the rear.

Not a difference, but a same ....little black plastic pollution control device on 89 -92 Brumby with four hoses + one outlet blanked off, sits near oil filler tube is same as the one on early L carby models at least, and sits opposite end of air box to the Brumby. Swap the blank cap from one side to the other - BINGO
