help blown head gasget ea82 motor
help blown head gasget ea82 motor
Just tryin to confirm im on the right track
I suspect a blown head gasget as Im losing coolant but not throught the motor. cooling system is pressurising and is pumping coolant out throught the overflow bottle. The radiator does not suck the coolant back in as the engine cools down. Have eliminated faulty radiator cap as tried more than one. I also i think see tiny bubbles at the top of the radiator I dont know if this is nornal as i dont see them on other cars??? Can anybody point me in the right direction of what to look for???

this is not normal and it does sound like a head gasket as the compression from the engine can get into the cooling system through the head gaskets and then it keeps overpressuring and the cap will release the pressure which then shoves it out through the overflow bottle.
However this can also be a blocked radiator that is making it do it.
mine was doing the samething only when hot and not very much so i took it out and got it serviced for $77 and evrything is now fine.
but if it is cool then pressurises straightaway after like 5 seconds of running then it can also be a sign of a headgasket.
if you want to know for sure take it to a mechanic and get a chemical test done on it. sould only be like 2 minutes if it is definetley a head gasket

Even though bubbles in the radiator is usually a sure sign, don't be too keen to jump to the diagnosis of a blown head gasket.
I thought I had done a head gasket but persevered with it and eventually found out it was a small hole in the radiator that only opened up when hot and closed when it cooled down. So discharged water and sucked air rather than replenishing from the overflow bottle. Got a new radiator, had the system flushed out which dislodged a lot of crap in the coolant system and this caused the inlet manifold to leak. So this could have been another source of a small leak for coolant to escape and air to be drawn back in instead of coolant from the overflow bottle. The problem with leaks that only appear when the engine is hot is that there's usually no sign when you stop to look for them as the hot coolant has evaporated.
All I'm sayiing is that diagnosing the problem can be a bit difficult, even mechanics aren't sure sometimes (a lot of times in my experience) and just change the obvious first and if that doesn't fix the problem they just replace the next thing until the problem is fixed.

Check under the floor lining in the front of the car... as crazy as this sounds if its wet your heater core has a crack in it. Also check around the area where the heater box is for any signs of leaking, the heater hoses should be checked too.
My sisters car developed a leak somewhere and was found on a hot day to be in the heater hose that had contact with another part, could be as simple as something as this?
Cheers
