Hey all,

Whilst screwing the the timing on my carb'd ea82 l wagon, I noticed that the vacuum line to the distributor was not doing anything. So i hopped in the car, whilst my dad was holding the line, gave it a rev and still couldnt feel any suction :S. Also when connecting/disconnecting the line at idol, there is no noticeable difference in the idle.

Is this not normal? Should it be noticeable sucking something during throttle/at idle? What could the cause be?

I checked the immediate hose and it wasnt blocked at all. :S

Did a bit of an experiment and hooked up the vacuum line from the hill holder onto the distributor and it seemed to idle a lot smoother, though pretty sure i shouldnt keep it like this.

a vacuum gauge is a useful tool. the port on the manifold might be gunked up. cannot imagine why idle would be any better, vac or no vac.. try sucking on the engine end of vac advance line with cap off and see if you can make points plate shift...and hold suck to see if plate holds position of advance.
