Whats peoples opinions on the different brands of CV joints??

Seams to be expensive brands that Repco and Coventrys seam to sell and there is cheeper brands places like Malz sells.

Are the ones sold at Malz for a fraction of the price of the other brands any good?

I got a CV boot only from Malz a few months back and it lasted less than 2 weeks.

I sorta draw the line at Super Cheap for very important car parts... but yeah a price would be good... and brand.

like i said i have a whole shaft from malz and it is still going strong...the brand of the boots are Kelpro, ive seen that same brand in many other shops too..

R.E.P.C.O and autopro buy their shafts from National Parts. The repco ones are still five year warranty and i think they have replaced each of mine two & three times under warranty and now one has just had its fifth birthday and taken a few to reach that age and 100k km its starting to make noise !

I don't like Kelpro of recent years for boots, cannot remeber brand name but is in a blue box with red logo and autpro Otiker, Otiker get that name tattooed somewhere so I don't 4get ! stocked 'em

Dave you know me and i think that this would apply for ALL major car components. In most cases price is going to dictate quality and it may just be worth spending a little more knowing that you will get good shafts.

If it was in the back then maybe yer go the cheep option as they do little work and very simple to replace. As for the fronts i would not compromise on quality.... and this ladies and general men finishs my rant for the day.

Here's the advice I've had...
Genuine Subaru CV's are the best you can get. Much longer lasting. They go as far as to say that a Genuine Subaru CV joint which has been reconditioned and has oversized ball bearings installed is still far superior to ANY aftermarket brand.

That advice comes from Allan's CV Joint in Osborne Park. CV's is all they do so I'm fairly confident its good.

The funny thing is the actual CV joint is manufactured by only 2 bearing company's. The genuine ones being NTN branded the other be some cheep inferior bearing joint. Almost all of the cheap complete CV joints you will buy are the 'other' brand or reconditioned.

The joints I source are NTN branded CV & DOJ's
I have had a pair on my RX now for almost 2 years & done about 65,000Kms one is starting to click now. I do have a 1" suspension lift too.

what some of you guys dont understand about supercheap is that they do have quality brands available (ferodo, exedy, bosch, dba, kyb, king springs, kenwood etc)- mostly through special orders, im not talking specifically about cvs here because ive never heard of the brand we can can get in. but im guessing we can also get the same ones from nationals. yes there are some inferior parts but you can still get some decent parts thru em. theres my rant.

ordered some today. $160 inc freight each (fronts). brand new. was ATAP brand- dont know what it stands for but only dealt with cv bits. stocked in wa too.

Dave we use Australian C.V. Joint Centre 3/13 Cressell Road Balcatta...they seem really good hey....they accually machine out the joints and fit oversize balls on there joints hey..thats the best way to do it a lot of companys dont do this...most of them rebiuld em with 2nd hand bits or weld up the joint were it worn and refit the old balls....

Reconditioned CV SUCK!

They just do not last on lifted / unlifted Subaru's due to the positive incline on the shaft from factory + any suspension lift we may use.

Even if the joint is 'machined' out & larger balls fitted it creates 'hot' points & will disintegrated VERY quickly. The number of reconditioned joint I have been through / seen fail is absolutely absurd.

Pay the extra few $ & buy a complete new joint! It is worth it in the long run.

i have found that reco joints are crap, never last as long, for the brisbane boys driveline services at archerfeid do brand new complete sharft and joints for around the 140 150 mark bought one yesterday for the lib!! now i have 2 brand new sharfts in the front that will last another 150000 km or so!!

as andrewT said see if you can source brand new stuff from your local CV joint place you may pay a little more but they will last longer!!
