Hi all , rather than going off topic in my spark plug thread I'll start again .
I bought this 86 RX-T and drove it back from Melbourne and while ok was not quite on song . A mechanic friend drove it and said plugs/leads/cap/filters (air and fuel) + possibly clean the injectors . Have done all of the above and the injectors should be back this morning . I should add I could kick Subaru for the length of the bolt behind the power steering pump that holds the fuel rail to the inlet manifold . It makes you slacken off both fan belts , undo the PS pump from its bracket AND the geniuses make you remove the pulley from the pump to lift it from its mounting bracket . FOR 1 BOLT ...
Rant aside we also found that the solenoid valve that operates the vacum line to the EGR valve had a broken barb and had been sealed up on the line from the charcoal cannister "T" piece and valve . I'm not sure how well they run without EGR working but not flash I suppose . Given that EGR makes changes to combustion events it would run ok without it - if it was tuned to run without it which std computers are not .
This engine is not too fumy and doesn't appear to use any significant amount of oil - blows zero smoke . Another thing I did notice is that the exhaust system from the first joint is small compared to the engine pipe ex the turbo . I don't know if turbo/non turbo EA82's used the same tail pipe but you would think the turbo version would be larger than the non turbo version . Are new turbo tail pipes still available ?
Can anyone whos been around these EA82-T's suggest any other reasons why it feels down on power and runs just a little rough as it loads up ?
Also the spark plugs always all come out all the same colour so this makes me think its not down a cylinder due to damaged rings , worn guides or burnt valve/s . They're off white bordering on very pale mustard yellow so its probably running a little lean for some reason .
Any help much appreciated cheers Adrian .
RX EA82T running rough - not quite right .

I feel this may be the ECU thinks the fuel curve is different to where it should be, so some sensor reading incorrectly ? start with engine temp sensor......
yeah bit hard to diagnose, because you don't know what the ECU thinks its reading for sensors....that one big advantage a/f ECUs have, because you can read out the sensor values.
