1988 MPFI, missing at idle and can feel it having the occasional cough when moving. At idle it will eventually miss and stop. Sometimes when cold, if accellerate hard, backfires as if starved for fuel. Have been advised it may be the engine temperature sensor. Any ideas?

Also is it feasible to swap over an EFI motor for a carby version?

fuel filter...

no dont change an efi motor for a carby motor...unless its a last resort

check the injectors.is the check engine light coming on?

Hi Geoffo i agree with postie i had the same thing happen did the usual plugs leads filter found out one injector no good it was very hard to get any speed up hope it helps
