I have recently replaced five right hand side inner cv boots and destroyed two joints in the process. I subsequently found that the Kings springs I installed raised the ride height 30 mm and I also installed a 50mm Subarino body lift Kit. Subarino advise that the lift will not alter the CV angle.
I have put the original springs back in. The catalytic converter is directly below the inner cv and am wondering if heat is also contributing to my problem. I plan to wrap the cat'' with Car Builders Direct To Heat Muffler Shield. The Brumby let me down three times crossing the Nullarbor and I am now a bit gun shy of taking it on any long runs. I have also put a Weber 32/36 on her supplied by Recarb in QLD and am using 12 Litres per 100kms which seems to be excessive. Any advice on my problems would be appreciated.

Sounds about right for a Weber! I’d stick with the factory carby and do a good overhaul on it - maybe even rejet it. From memory Willy Fisterbottom did a write up about resetting the hitachi carb for better performance.

As for the CV boots, that lift combo would look awesome but would certainly chew through the CVs. Five boots is “impressive” - sorry to hear you went through this pain so many times!

Heat from the cat probably contributes to the deterioration of the cv boot compared to the other side. I doubt it’s the only reason. No rubbing on the steering shaft?

When you replace the CV boots, are you slipping the shaft end of the boot into the groove that the band squashed and holds onto? If not you might be over stretching the boot.

I’m guessing you’re running aftermarket shafts too.

G''day Mate, the original Hitachi was beyond redemption so I am stuck withe the weber, it certainly makes her go a fair bit harder and that beautiful Italian induction roar is music to my ears as I used to have many Italian cars. I have been advised that the "body lift kit " will not alter the CV angle. I have also put Dynamic 14 inch rims with 175/70 Maxxis muddies on her, this will alter ride height a little I guess. I was only burning out inner right sided boots therefore my thoughts on heat from the cat effecting the shitty boots on aftermarket shafts, I am unable to source originals and have tried both the Burson and Repco shit with no success. The steering shaft extension is not rubbing on the boots. I will be insalling the heat shield today and am hoping the combo of removing the heavy duty springs and the shield iss the silver bullit !
