Recently, it seams every 2 weeks my clutch needs to be adjusted to allow me to change gears easily and be able to get the car into reverse when the engine is running. As in adjustment i mean almost about 5mm needs to be wound in on the adjustment nut each time.

Locking nut is secure... clutch does not appear to slip or anything like that... clutch is not very old... and most weeks the clutch is not under much load.

The clutch is an ea82 set up... im aware that the weaknesses in this system seam to be the clutch forks although im sure the clutch cable can stretch and stuff like that. It has a beafed up pressure plate so the pedal is hard to press compared to a standard set up.

With the amount of adjustment i have had to do im worried that something is about to give... Any people have coments about this... anyone had there ea82 (L series) Clutch cables stretch and snap?

Any input would be great.

How about metal fatigue in the pedal area. Had the same problem on the Brumby, thought it was the cable, but turned out to be fatigue in the pedal area.

it sound like you clutch plate is stuffed dave or your cable is stretching hey..

I have not snapped a cable however remember a time when I was running HD clutch and cable that the pin that the clutch cable passed (up under the dash) sheered/snapped (I sh_t my pants when it went as well that bang was so loud). My thoughts are its unlikely the cable is elongating maybe have a look at the clutch pedal for distortion/bending, if it was the fork i would think that you would hear the thrust bearing a little more and your not hearing that are you?

You may have snapped a securing bolt where the cable bolts to the pedal box, they are only about 5mm so its not hard to snap them with a heavier clutch

Yeah I have had one snap on me. Same symptoms as you as strand by strand gave way and the cable slowly elongated. It snapped right near the pedal where the cable comes out of its sheath. It was pulling out of the sheath on a slight angle and rubbing away at the cable every time I clutched. So have a quick look at where it joins the pedal.

Thanks for the input guys... looks like i will be looking for a brand new clutch cable just so i can rule that out. I am hearing no thrust bearing noise or anything that isn't normal except having the constantly adjust it. I will check out the pedal box... perhaps some bolts have rattled loose or something weird.

I had the same thing happening to me a few weeks ago then as I was driving down the road went to change gear and the cable went bang , it broke near where the cable joins onto the lever on the bell housing.
This was on my Leone

I have checked out everything visable for in the engine bay and under the dash... nothing appears to be damaged or bent. I think i will put another cable in and do some compassion measurements.

Whatever the problem is... it's about to make itself clear... just got back from a drive... i maybe have traveled a few hundred kms TOPS since the last adjustment and it feels like it needs atleast another 5mm of adjustment again.

With it needing this amount of adjustment im starting to think/hope... that it is just the cable... i might get onto changing this tomorrow if i can get a hole of another cable. I can't think of anything else that can seriously allow for this much slack.

L series cable compatible?
I have a brand new one still in the packet sitting here.

It has to be an L series one... Clutch cable suits the gear box.

Just put a brand new cable on supplied by Andrew.... cable seams to have improved the adjustment by about 10mm.

Should know in the next few days if this has fixed the problem.

I hope that was the issue other wise you will be pulling the box out to replace the release fork

yeah i know... and surely it will let go when im out bush some place.

If the cable is brand new it will stretch a bit with use. Be prepared for a couple of re-adjustments before it stabilises.

It wont be massive adjustments, but you wont be adjusting it every day and extra 5mm though.

Well the adjustment saga continues.... it has increased to needing a 5mm adjustment every 100km of driving... almost every time i turn up at a location i have almost lost all gear selectivity when stationary.

It has got that bad that the clutch fork is almost bending down enough to hit a support bracket when the clutch is pressed.

Problem is still un-clear but it appears internal.

Hatch is off the road for a while. Engine will need to be removed yet again. By my calculations i have only got about 100km of travel left on it before i am strandard with no clutch... thats if something does not completly snap off in the mean time.

PS sounds like things are going astray to need that much adjustment tho !....clutch plate fallen apart or fingers getting chewed/broken off !

PPS: go the libbo box and Turbo clutch (or at least a liberty fw&clutch beefed) EA82 clutch = shite
