ea82t coolant troubles
ea82t coolant troubles
since i have put a 2nd hand turbo, new water pump and coolant additive in my ea82t it has been running a little weird...
at start up from cold to operating temperature it is fine but at operating temp and a little longer the coolant in radiator etc is under a bit of pressure like there is alot of air trapped and then starts to bubble and boil almost, up the resivor pipe and into the resivor tank and is rather hot (but gauge is at normal op temperature)
ive tried to get the air (if thats wat it is) out of it but no luck..?
why does it do this? is it trapped air becuase the turbo coolant lines and radiator were taken off? blocked hose?
ive tried a few things but it still does it...
any help would be great..
cheers

yeah it makes a nasty sound of air coming back up the resivor pipe to the resivor aswell... really weird it is.....
was running perfectly before i swapped the turbo and water pump and gave it some coolant...

I would also have to report that it takes some time after a coolant change to see the temperature properly regulated and the gurgling happening.
But last time, instead of filling radiator completly and closing cap, I had engine idling, warmed up, and then filled and closed cap. So i guess somehow cleared air pockets. worked for me!

cavitation seems to be the buzz word in the head trade, caused by shitty new water pumps apparently. Is it mentioned at allhead.com.au ? They have an answer for some engines which involves tapping water lines into block and head at various spot to alleviate symptoms . They also say to remove the plug thing rattling in the thermostats !
I cut the arse out of a plastic bottle and grub up a suitable size bit of heater hose an inch long into the lid. This fits snugly into filler neck and top up water through this with water supply kept up to the bottle. An alternative is to buy a radiator hoppy for a few bucks _seen 'em at supercheap in yellow plastic.
at some extremes then go do this parked on a slope with rad cap being the highest point
