ea82t turbo bad noise

Post by wrx_nut » Thu Nov 02, 2006 8:31 pm

hey guys, driving my ea82t wagon today and noticed the turbo is making a really strange type of whistle when it starts boosting (when the turbo spins faster) through all the rev range.....

its like more of a wine than the normal whistle

i have a pod filter and 2.5" exhaust on with standard everything else...
had a quick look at all the vaccume lines and they seem to be alright but i did notice the center of the turbo (bearing part) was a little oily underneath....

im leaning towards no oil getting to turbo so its got a dry bearing

any help would be great

cheers

Have only hear 2 turbos make that sound and both times it wasnt long before the dreaded white cloud appeared out the pipe. Both turbos removed and found to have excessive spindle float and full of engine oil and water

It’s cheaper to get another one.... or Fit a VF10...

I *might* have one for sale soon...

Well, you know the saying - if you lend $100 to someone and never see them again, it was probably worth it ...

haha yer surely it shouldnt be too much to rebuid... compressor and turbine wheels havent hit the castings so would just be a new bearings, seals, balance, etc...

fingers crossed.. taking it to a specialist this week...

while its out im changing the water pump also
