EA82 Camshaft Question

Hey all,

This is a question i've been meaning to ask for some time...

Do the EA82 carb and EA82 MPFI engines run different camshafts?

Anyone know any info on this as i currently have an camshaft from a MPFI and a camshalft from a carb job in my "pick a part" engine... At about 2000 RPM there is a little surging occuring especially when slowing or you ease off the throttle...

Reason for two different cams is that we got this engine from a pick a part but someone had taken the cams off and removed a cam from the housing... we had to put the engine back together (dodgy bros job) so we weren't paying for individual parts... When we got home we just whacked a camshaft from my dead carb job in not thinking anything of it.

I've never been able to get this engine to idle properly unless the A/C is on, and when it's cold will idle up to 2100 RPM... And when accelerating the engine pulls okay until you hit 3000 RPM where there is a noticeable gain in the engine power... in my mind its either both cams being on song or i have a compression issue (it blows blue smoke when it wants to, somedays no smoke, others whenever you slow with engine braking. Yesterday, no smoke... it rained... lots of smoke... me :(???) I can't wait for uni to be over so i can get my other engine back together...

Any info would be useful for future.

Cheers

When you look at the specs for the camshafts they have identical values but i dont have any values for late model camshafts. Do a compression chack or just have a look at the spark plugs that will give you an idea on whats happening in the engine.

Yes, the carb and MPFI are different cams. The MPFI needs it's cams for the enine to work properly. The cams are identified by the rings around the centre of the shaft.

Thanks cameron, that would explain a bit then...

I'll looking at gathering all the bits to my other engine and stealling some of dads tools from his joint and bringing them to benders so i can work on my new engine...

I'll make sure not to mix cams between the engines...

The cops up here are clamping down on unroadworthy cars, its just a matter of time before they get me... Or i get the other engine in (new bearings, rings, seals etc)

Cheers
