Just went for a drive up the road after putting my lift kit in and the spedo does not work. the cable goes from the dash to the transmission doesn't it? Is the cable long enough for a 2" lift?

Should be long enough for a 2" kit . . . might be a little stretch though. If you can get your fingers in behind the dash you can plug it back in easily (just remove the lower two trim panels on the driver's side).

Replacing it with a speedo cable from a manual MY is the prefered option.

The other trick is to use one from an L-Series auto, it is also longer.

Or an MY auto one, you can also use a liberty one if you have too

Just to complicate matters (and contradict Dave) . . . Don't Libertys use a Speed Sender instead of a cable? I know for sure my mate's Gen2 does.

All the JDM cars I've seen use a cable, even the turbos.
The Oz RS Turbo & WRXs use a sensor because they have the 260km/h speedo. The Gen 1 Oz Libs use a cable.

Auto L would be my pick.

Early libs Gen 1 had cables and they are a tad longer than the L manual ones

from looking at the cable the other day it appears that the length is not a problem-the outer bood has just perished and the cable can be pulled straight out so looks like i will b replacing it tomorro.
