not wanting to state the obvious, but you are asking 'us' what oil 'they' put in. No harm in going back to tell them of your new tick and ask what grade and brand was used (and add it ti this post too) , it may be they put in too good an oil or the old you get what you paid for thing.

someone is sure to tell you what is their prefered oil for various models and cars

sort of missed what your wheels are !

sorry, 95 gen 2 lib.

i wasnt implying you tell me what kind of oil they put in, just meant to say, can crap oil do that. i'll make myself clearer next time.

Yeah, it's usually the grade of oil that makes that happen. I've heard of engine tick coming on when someone switches to synthetic oil of the same grade too.

They might have put good oil in it, just a different kind or grade that causes the tick.

Generally if a cheap crap oil is put in they will run quiet as the crap oil is whats left over after all the other good oils have been refined out. You should have a 10-30 in there.

is that the expensive stuff...? should i change the filter too or leave it as it only got done 2 weeks ago?

The filter should be ok in my opinion.

10/30 is just the grade, how thick it is - like comparing 80 gsm writing paper to 400 gsm cardboard; both come in various qualities (buy Reflex, support Australia's pulp and paper industry BTW) and colours, but by assigning the weight a number you know what to use it for. Does that make sense?

Good brands of oil that I have found are Shell, Motul and Penrite.

We use the Semi Synthetic Shell Helix 10/30 not the ECO one

Which one do u use?
http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?sit ... _0620.html

I use the Plus 15W-50, in both my 96 EJ22 and my 85 EA82, I'd prob use the lower garde 20W-50 Super (yellow one) in the EA82, but its easier to use one oil accross both engines. less bottles laying around.

My 2 cents

just took it back to where i got the service done, he said give it a few more days driving, see if it will go away, otherwise he will replace the oil with 10/30 see if that helps.

the 10/30 are the viscosity (shear weights when cold and at operating temp) if you are going to dump the oil yourself just ensure these figures match. i use a fuch synthetic in my ej22 and it seems to be good not too expensive either.
